Mother’s Day:Meladrama

Once a year, we buy a card and strain our brains to come up with a gift that she’ll like.  That’s one mundane Mother’s Day commonality.  However, there’s also a dramatic, primal, universal reason that we bother with the card and the gift that we hope she’ll like and I daresay, it’s not marketing.  Melodramatic as it sounds mothers literally give us life and then protect our lives, sometimes putting her own in jeopardy.  There are also many wearing degrees and years of protection and sacrifice.  And, even if there are grumbles, she wouldn’t have it any other way.

So, no matter how complex or easy the mother-child relationship, almost everyone who remembers a mother, feels a heart-strings pull on Mother’s Day.  If you are without your mother, I hope you enjoy a fond memory on Sunday. If you spend time with her, I hope you make a fond memory.  Happy Mother’s Day.
