Watercolor Wednesday

This is creature week.  They are sullen and unnerving, sporting giant ears.  I have no idea why.

I tweaked digitally, just a little bit.

My world is a wonder of visual candy and foreboding shadow shapes vying every waking moment for my full attention.

  1. There is an artist in Houston, Kelley Devine, who comes to mine when I look at your work. She paints portraits of women with animal horns added.

  2. Elena these are so fantastic. The expressions are so powerful. I love how you’re creating something dreamlike and light, but at the same time intense and strong..captivating..

  3. I love the mingling of colors. These creatures are likely very wise and are inclined to watch and listen rather than speak. Maybe they are intense and focused in their listening, not sullen.

  4. That is a gripping stare on the first one! Yes, a story is behind that “look” for sure. The second one so oblivious looking, ears flopping in the wind, delightful, carefree, both lovely and great colors as always elena!

  5. What a reality even though she was only an imaginary figure.
Shape, details, and colorings = show the Character and implied story or
context —— all in one integrated world !
It’s your perfect imagination and the skill to convert it as a drawing !!!

  6. I particularly like the first – the intense penetration of the stare, the effectiveness of the colour choice. But they’re certainly unnerving – not the sort of creatures to have on your mind at bed time!

  7. Oh Elena! They are Beautiful and intense.
Perhaps they are earth listeners – and they are saddened by what they hear…

That first one – those browns and blues, and that gaze – Incredible, I can’t stop looking.
