Watercolor Wednesday

bhorse copy

Tighter than my usual watercolor sketches, this one is a little too predictable for my taste.  Because I’m literally sketching with the paint, following no pencil guides, I became preoccupied with the horse’s anatomy.  She lives not too far from me, so I also struggled a bit to portray her as I have glimpsed her, walking or riding by her home. This sketch was derived from a quick snapshot.

My world is a wonder of visual candy and foreboding shadow shapes vying every waking moment for my full attention.

  1. Very nice sketch, dear Elena! I like horses. I would love to continue to paint, horses, because you are very talented!
Have a wonderful day, dear Elena! Big hugs, much love, Stefania! 🙂

  2. Wow, this is really breathtaking. I could look at it all day long. It is so peaceful, it has such an ethereal quality. Beautiful work 🙂

  3. I love the expression on the face..the tilt of the head. There is so much said. Or, so it seems to me. I also love that you do your water colours as ‘in the moment’ pieces. That’s amazing!

  4. Too predictable for your recent otherworldly type creatures maybe, but wow, what a beautiful horse! Time spent on the anatomy paid off! Ahhh, another subject I would love to master. Need more hours in the day. 🙂

  5. I’m missing the too predictable that you feel Elena, but AM feeling the movement and the mystery of the horse spirit in your painting.
Really love that slightly undefined edging of her head and her mane .

  6. Elena you don’t need pencil lines… I had a life session today and I have tried to work only with water colours… nop not easy when it run run run.. you have great control and superb colour mixing.

  7. The thing about your elegant, but loose style Elena is that you get the nuances that most would miss – these give wonderful form and body/muscle mass to the horse, and finally movement. Love that you masterfully managed the colors to show those nuances and take away detail that wasn’t relevant. Predictable? No to my eyes, it’s a lesson on many levels.

  8. Love it – especially the oneiric feel that reminds me of metaphysical painters and the incredibly effective color contrast. Hat’s off to you, Elena! 🙂

  9. Elena…I know I haven’t commented in a long while, but I very much look forward to Wednesday and Friday emails 🙂 I just want to say that this is very lovely. Whimsical. Dream-like. Beautiful… Keep up the awesome.
