Blood and Vapor:Communion

bnewbirds copy

Oil on Wood 10″x18″

Not as gloomy as it appears, I chose the bird metaphor to offer affinity with all living things.  This is the last (perhaps) of the smaller works. I’m now challenging myself with very large paintings with a less specific focus than the small pieces.  So far, I’ve experienced lots of trial and error attempts with them. I may finally be gaining on them:)

I will not whine again about photographing shiny oil work, but this painting is so much stronger in person.  On the flip side,  the WP snow is perfect!

*A new series, “Blood And Vapor”.:   Who lingers within you?   Have you ever felt an ancestral presence?  The inescapable tie of family:hundreds of individuals, yesterday and today, here and gone.  A powerful resonance or inconspicuous vapor?

  6. Thanks again Elena.
Imagination has wings of a butterfly, too fragile to fly away from those memories that sometimes tie up one’s heart.

  7. I like the skill in the execution of the painting, and the rich depth created by the change of medium. But , to be honest, I find the birds somewhat disturbing. Perhaps Hitchcock has something to answer for!!

  8. Firstly it’s awesome that it’s painted on wood…
I like it..it seems like he’s contemplating with his eyes closed..not too bothered about the birds..maybe even oblivious to them!

Not as gloomy as it appears. No. Gloomier.

I really love this one, Elena. It’s dark and I like that!

  16. M m m ! It’s power like Spanish old-master’s paintings of the martyred Saint.
But my understanding of my ancestor in me is the same gene combination which
I inherited —— hence showing the same tendencies in the life.

  17. Another great painting, Elena! Powerful!

  28. Oh goodness, this is so gorgeous, Elena. I don’t find this gloomy myself. I seems to me she is conjuring the beautiful weightlessness of birds.
I’d love to hang this one on my wall… : )

  29. Nice the effects you obtain of the vapor. The image is there but very subtle. The birds around complement very well and are resolved so nicely!
