Blood and Vapor:Communion

bnewbirds copy

Oil on Wood 10″x18″

Not as gloomy as it appears, I chose the bird metaphor to offer affinity with all living things.  This is the last (perhaps) of the smaller works. I’m now challenging myself with very large paintings with a less specific focus than the small pieces.  So far, I’ve experienced lots of trial and error attempts with them. I may finally be gaining on them:)

I will not whine again about photographing shiny oil work, but this painting is so much stronger in person.  On the flip side,  the WP snow is perfect!

*A new series, “Blood And Vapor”.:   Who lingers within you?   Have you ever felt an ancestral presence?  The inescapable tie of family:hundreds of individuals, yesterday and today, here and gone.  A powerful resonance or inconspicuous vapor?

  1. I like the skill in the execution of the painting, and the rich depth created by the change of medium. But , to be honest, I find the birds somewhat disturbing. Perhaps Hitchcock has something to answer for!!

  2. Firstly it’s awesome that it’s painted on wood…
I like seems like he’s contemplating with his eyes closed..not too bothered about the birds..maybe even oblivious to them!

  3. Not as gloomy as it appears. No. Gloomier.

I really love this one, Elena. It’s dark and I like that!

  4. M m m ! It’s power like Spanish old-master’s paintings of the martyred Saint.
But my understanding of my ancestor in me is the same gene combination which
I inherited —— hence showing the same tendencies in the life.

  5. You created a beautiful painting, dear Elena! I am impressed very much and also fascinated me, the girl with the birds! ! Congratulations! Can wait to see your next paintings!
It is very beautiful snow on wordpress. And my country snowing quiet, of few days, everything is covered with snow, even if it is cold outside is very nice.
Have a wonderful day dear Elena! Big hugs, Stefania! 🙂

  6. Lovely, lovely–also works as a Christmas card, more WP snow. And I think? I see minute dots across my screen–either your addition, or I’m really in for it today.

  7. Oh goodness, this is so gorgeous, Elena. I don’t find this gloomy myself. I seems to me she is conjuring the beautiful weightlessness of birds.
I’d love to hang this one on my wall… : )

  8. Elena, It is some challenge but you doing great it is very interesting. I did some painting like the masters work and it was very interesting as it all based on glazing and give you similar effect, read about it I am sure it will help. Not that you need much help… Powerfull series.
