Oil on Wood 10″x18″
Not as gloomy as it appears, I chose the bird metaphor to offer affinity with all living things. This is the last (perhaps) of the smaller works. I’m now challenging myself with very large paintings with a less specific focus than the small pieces. So far, I’ve experienced lots of trial and error attempts with them. I may finally be gaining on them:)
I will not whine again about photographing shiny oil work, but this painting is so much stronger in person. On the flip side, the WP snow is perfect!
*A new series, “Blood And Vapor”.: Who lingers within you? Have you ever felt an ancestral presence? The inescapable tie of family:hundreds of individuals, yesterday and today, here and gone. A powerful resonance or inconspicuous vapor?
Hauntingly beautiful and majestic! Great, great piece. – Gabriel (http://gabrielnavar.com)
Such a fantastic painting. I thinks this is definitely one of my favorites.
You definitely created a haunting mood! It’s beautiful! What kind of wood is it? I bet that was a challenge.
An amazing piece of work! I’d love to feature this on my website – if you’d allow it – with full links back to your blog.
Sure! Proud to. Thanks:)
Hi Elena, I’ve been a long time setting my website up. Hope it’s still okay to use this image. I’ve credited you and given a link to your site on the homepage at http://www.foresttownchronicles.com
The site looks amazing, Darren!
I like it very much, it’s beautiful and powerful… And I have trouble taking photos of oil paintings, too. If I learn how to do it properly, I’ll let you now. 😉
Thanks very much! I’ve got some idea of how to do it, but I’m much too lazy:)
Thanks again Elena.
Imagination has wings of a butterfly, too fragile to fly away from those memories that sometimes tie up one’s heart.
So beautifully poetic Marcelo. Thank you!
I like the skill in the execution of the painting, and the rich depth created by the change of medium. But , to be honest, I find the birds somewhat disturbing. Perhaps Hitchcock has something to answer for!!
Oh yes, horror bird iconography;) Thanks Louis.
Firstly it’s awesome that it’s painted on wood…
I like it..it seems like he’s contemplating with his eyes closed..not too bothered about the birds..maybe even oblivious to them!
Yes. Working on wood is interesting. Give it a go! Thank you Shree!
Wonderful work~love it !
Thank you!
Love this painting and the spooky feel it gives when looking at it as a whole.
Thanks very much Allyson!
Wow! The deep red and those ghostly birds. Stunning!
Thank you Cindy!
Not gloomy–rich and meditative, rather. Lovely.
Oh, I like that:) Thanks much Kathryn.
Oh wow. This one is incredible. LOVE!
Thank you Robin!
Love it!!!! It’s quite enchanting
Thanks very much!
Not as gloomy as it appears. No. Gloomier.
I really love this one, Elena. It’s dark and I like that!
I enjoy wading in the dark as well. Thanks Prospero!
M m m ! It’s power like Spanish old-master’s paintings of the martyred Saint.
But my understanding of my ancestor in me is the same gene combination which
I inherited —— hence showing the same tendencies in the life.
An interesting take Yoshi.Thank you!
Great!
Thanks Jess!
oh wow!
Thanks Stacy Michelle!
Another great painting, Elena! Powerful!
Thanks so much Anette!
Such a great work. A dark and sad mood, a painting of so much expression and feelings. Looks sad and gets to me.
Thanks so much for saying Linda. Much appreciated.
What a strong painting, my dear Elena and I can imagine how much better it must be in life! I love it! 🙂
Thanks so much Marina:)
The warmth and richness in this is such a wonderful gift, thank you Elena!
My pleasure entirely Patti. Thank you!
Love this, Elena. Great atmosphere, pose, and silhouettes.
Share more of these and I might get painting again myself!
I do hope so. Thank you MIllie!
Haunting! Like a still from Andersen’s Girl with matches.
The same sort of mood for sure. Thank you Vassilis!
Riveting and powerful. Really beautiful piece.
Thanks very much Trapper.
It’s amazing…even on the tiny screen of my iPhone! I would so love to see your work in person. Some day!
Juli, thank you so much for your lovely comments. I love to give you a tour of my collection one day.
You created a beautiful painting, dear Elena! I am impressed very much and also fascinated me, the girl with the birds! ! Congratulations! Can wait to see your next paintings!
It is very beautiful snow on wordpress. And my country snowing quiet, of few days, everything is covered with snow, even if it is cold outside is very nice.
Have a wonderful day dear Elena! Big hugs, Stefania! 🙂
We have a little snow now too, and lots of ice. Thanks so much Stefania:)
There is cozy feeling in this dark atmosphere, escape from time and space…excellent work 🙂
Thanks so much:)
Lovely, lovely–also works as a Christmas card, more WP snow. And I think? I see minute dots across my screen–either your addition, or I’m really in for it today.
Those dots are bits of texture that I had no patience to remove in PS:) So, it’s not you, it’s me:) Thanks Amal.
Oh goodness, this is so gorgeous, Elena. I don’t find this gloomy myself. I seems to me she is conjuring the beautiful weightlessness of birds.
I’d love to hang this one on my wall… : )
I do love your spin Karen. Thank you:)
Nice the effects you obtain of the vapor. The image is there but very subtle. The birds around complement very well and are resolved so nicely!
Thank you ever so much Palmira!
A slightly disturbing but powerful image – love it.
David.
Much appreciated David.
Elena, It is some challenge but you doing great it is very interesting. I did some painting like the masters work and it was very interesting as it all based on glazing and give you similar effect, read about it I am sure it will help. Not that you need much help… Powerfull series.
I also love to glaze, but I find photographing glazed paintings is so difficult! Thanks much Doron.
Oh dear Elena, I loved it, and you know snowing on wordpress blog too… These snowflakes are amazing with your painting… I loved the birds so much. You did great again. Thank you, love, nia
Thank you sweet NIa:)
I love the moodiness of this, Elena! Oil paintings do seem impossible to photograph.
For me they are impossible to photograph;) Thanks Richard!
