Dark And Light

A quick self portrait.  It’s not particularly flattering but it is indeed, me.

My world is a wonder of visual candy and foreboding shadow shapes vying every waking moment for my full attention.

  1. Keeping it simple… sometimes I have to remind myself… is where the magic is. Your title Dark and Light… immediately positions the viewer to enter that in-between world between 2 extremes and explore the vast territory of self. kudos.

  2. I think you are beautiful Elena. There are so many layers to you, your talent and this painting…to borrow an Americanism…’awesome’.. ❤

  3. Elena, this is stunning! Lyrical, poetic,,,penetrating beautiful person with your wonderful brushwork, emerging from the dark very strong character…amazing artistic expression:)

  4. It is beautiful, intense, honest, and I love it.

Artists – good artists, and sometimes even bad artists – often produce their best as self-portrait. I’m thinking Jack Vettriano, an artist for whom I have very little time, except for his self-portraits, such as this one http://media-cache-ec0.pinimg.com/736x/28/a4/de/28a4de34e8f492d52cad1f51cc4287b4.jpg and J D Fergusson http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/ec/8c/15/ec8c152c518ebfa2ac074c1dd4c9b99a.jpg

Yours is a keeper. I have dragged it to my desktop and will tuck it away somewhere to appreciate at my leisure.

  5. Oh, — this is heavy. From very liberated approach and the resonances shared with young or even small models, I was guessing you as a cheeky big eyed woman.
Now I realized, you possess much dark and heavy philosophy behind.

      1. I wasn’t talked about the age but a facial structure. I’m far older than you still, it seems looks jokey face, hence
still receiving club invitation and fun-loving anarchists
party invitation. = in the other hand, shortcoming is,
people doesn’t take me serious. (no good for Zen talking)
        Ha ha ha 😀 😀

  6. Fabulous work Elena, once again you manage to amaze me of your exceptional artistic creativity and skill. This is a fantastic self-portrait, beautiful rendering of light and darks – wow. I love how you capture emotion in your portraits and this is no different – beautiful skin tones, the angle and slack in your face is fantastic, and wonderful texturing/color choices for your hair. One of my favorite of yours!
