This moving painting makes me wonder who is behind those hands and what kind of energy or spiritual force guides each paint stroke.
The closed eyes hide a certain vulnerability and distance.
My title for it: Life’s Blood. You clearly have paint and color running in your veins, replicating in your cells. What a marvelous image, and what a marvelous Vocation you have. You are inspiring.
❤

A wonderful wordsmith such as yourself, beautifully encapsulates what I am trying to do in this painting. Thank you for your kind and oh so insightful comment:)
The artist has been portrayed !! It is wonderful, I love the expression and the strength of this work, Elena.
Congratulations for your extraordinary paintings.
Another beauty Elena – I feel the “aw look at my hands” and love how fantastic the hand gestures were painted. Your arms and hands have really nice form. Here is what I love – your beautiful face, as master a such a relaxed feel, beautiful edging and shadows. This series is one of my favorites.
Sure, you can, Jess. I find it’s best to objectify hands, and see the negative space between the fingers instead of thinking of hands as hands. That helps. Thank you!
The focused ‘dialogue’ taking place between the eyes and the hands is beautifully captured and, in a self portrait, it is intriguing. I assume a camera was used?
I am always aware of your brushwork. In this painting you make me aware of the hands that create the brushwork… you make me aware almost with brutality. This is one of the most expressive paintings I have seen so far on this blog.
Dear Elena, the expression is great… you almost give the expression in your art painting… Fascinated me. Thank you, have a nice day and weekend, love, nia
Yet another dramatic shot from screen play —– goodness, you war not gazing at your blood stained fingers but just a paint 🙂
In fact this is pretty charming picture !
A very powerful portrait Elena! Wonderful stuff! What sprang immediately to mind was ‘Out, out damn’d spot.’ Lady Macbeth muttering to herself as she sleepwalks through her castle. Wringing her hands as if washing them.
Are you thinking of ridding yourself of the paint Elena or is it as much a part of you, and I guess it must be, as the king’s blood become burned into Lady Macbeth’s conscience? You certainly seem to be contemplating how meaningful, and how much a part of you, it is. 🙂
Amazing work! Has such an enigmatic expression, darkly atmospheric, intriguing art ! 🙂
Thanks so much!:)
Excellent! Excellent! Can I share this, too, on ‘strata of the self’, please, Elena?
Yes, by all means! Thank you, Ashley:)

I’m glad that you see the guide. She’s there:) And the vulnerability, all artists are on familiar terms with him. Thank you Marcelo.
A great and very expressive self-portrait. I see you have been painting with the primary colours. 🙂
Thank you very much, Otto!
Beautiful, expressive… It shows energy and intensity. Wonderful, as usual.

Now this is a nice use of oil! I wish I could use oil like this, but I don’t really ever touch it.
Well, I wish I could wield a pen like you do. Thank you, Mark
Gorgeous! And those hands, wow. The spots of color are just perfectly realized. It’s always an inspiration on your pages!

Oh this is beautiful Elena! Wish I could paint hands so well.

Yes. My husband clicked away with my camera, as I attempted to find the right pose for the project. Thank you, Louis.
Lovely to see you Elena, beautiful, unadorned and with strong, powerful, graceful hands.
You are so kind. Thanks ever so much, Anna.

Thanks ever so much, Yoshi!:)
Our creativity is such a part of “self” it is un-separable. The imagery, Elena, captures that essence.
Unless, of course, what you really are saying is…”Oh, I haven’t a clue what we’re having for supper…”
It’s all relevant, and as for most women, gets thrown into the pot marked “intentions” 🙂
Such an expressive self-portrait.
Thank you, Patti.

BTW I did not intend any negative association with Lady Mabeth of course 🙂
Not to worry. I understand:)
Absolutely. That allusion to Macbeth is part of what I was considering as I painted. Quite insightful, Adrian! Thanks so much!
This is so striking and beautiful. Wow. Well done.
Thank you very much.
I love this so much
I’m glad! Thank you, Kaci.
As if emerging from the canvas. Cool!
Thanks, Jeff!
Ah, the painter after a painting session “will paint wash off my hands?”.
Seriously though, I love it, Elena! 🙂
Thank you, Marina!
love this
THank you, Chrissy.
I love this and how you have paint on your body and hands….you as part of the painting and canvas….wonderful!
