Archive for the ‘awards’ Category

No artist I know ever stops observing, never stops studying.  I’ve been away from this blog for a while, but I’ve been constantly working, studying.  The dissatisfaction with at least one element in every finished piece always drives the next piece.  Above are a few studies I’ve been working on, trying to “fix” something that didn’t gel in a previous effort.

Edges are a constant concern.  Softening, firming or losing them in a back round.  It’s something I’m always pondering.  Transitioning of values from one passage to another, is another thing I’m constantly thinking about. Dramatic lighting changes up the way I think about edges and transitions. And color often runs away with my intentions.

I’ll be posting more soon.  These will be finished works that will no doubt drive the next bunch of studies:)

One piece that I was pretty happy with (“Tommy”) when I finished it, was awarded sixth place in the Portrait Society of America’s  Members show in the Non-Commissioned category.   I’m thrilled, humbled and very excited! Click on the “Portrait Society” link and enjoy all of the excellent work!

Thanks SVA Portfolio Curators!

I plowed through my emails yesterday to find a very welcome notification from The SVA Curation Team on the Behance Network, informing me that my kid’s illustration portfolio is featured.

Proud to be an alumna, and I’m thrilled:) Here’s a link if you’d like to view the work.

Bright and Shiny Awards

Fellow bloggers, I learn so much from you.  Thanks to Scriptor Obscura Writes.  I’ve stolen her organizational idea-an entire page devoted to the blog honors bestowed upon her blog.  In the very near future, you will find a tab up top, devoted to this blog’s happy notices.

I’m fortunate to add two new bright spots of recognition. They are the Sunshine Award via visual artist Nuno at Vinyl Eraser and Mrs. Sparkly’s Ten Commandments Award from Jane Thorne‘s wittily written and illustrated blog.  Both are recommended blogs and although we’ve never met in person, written by wonderful people. Thanks ever so much to you both!

Ok, down to business. Here’s where my organizational skills are obviously lacking (no organizational awards for me).  I’ve lost track of blogs that I’ve highlighted with previous awards.  So many have already accepted the above awards.  In addition,  I am terribly confused about which of the myriad blogs I follow welcome the prospect of accepting an award.  Given this mess, I regret to tell you that I will have to forego the nomination of blogs for these new honors. Yes, I am the breaker of chain letters but not usually the shirker of duties, except this time; I’m overwhelmed.

Happily however, I will answer the prescribed questions for each new award.

The Sunshine Award:

Favorite color: Any variation from the red or violet families.

Favorite animal: Tough, but my cats would mutiny if I did not choose them;)

Favorite number: This I must keep secret, or it will cease to be magical.

Favorite non-alcoholic drink: Tea! Chai, Earl Grey, Jasmine, Lady Grey, English Breakfast……

Facebook or Twitter:Both, plus a zillion other platforms.

My passion: My family, art, creatures.

Getting or giving presents: Giving.

Favorite pattern: Partial to polka dots.

Favorite day of the week: Sunday

Favorite flower: Tiger lilies

Kreative Blogger

Kim of  BUDDAFULKAT  has ever so kindly awarded me with the Kreativ Blogger award.  I must therefore thank Kim (and I do most sincerely),  select 6 blogs to pass on the award, and reveal 10 things about me that you may not already know.

Before I fulfill my award obligations, let me say this……..I’ve many online friends with terrific blogs, who have already been bestowed with the Kreative Blogger so they are ineligible.  I also enjoy the blogs of online friends who prefer to bow out gracefully from awardings in general, so I respect their wishes.  It’s lucky that I know lots of bloggers left to honor.  If any of the bloggers below choose to decline the award, it’s fine-no pressure.  Just know that I enjoy your posts.

Ok, here goes:

Versatile Blogger!

I don’t actually know how versatile I am, but I am honored by the Versatile Blogger award.   Thanks so much Antonio for nominating me. I also want to thank  buddhafulkat  who also nominated me. Wow!  Visit their blogs.

And now the pleasurable task of honoring fifteen versatile bloggers to carry the title forth into the far reaches of the blogosphere.   One would think that it’s difficult to come up with fifteen blogs, but I found that I had to leave some of my favorites out! Another bunch of favs are already recipients of this particular award.  But, I’m happy with my choices. And here they are in no particular order…drum roll please;  design, illustration,  -hot design – children’s illustration and photography  -fab sciencey  info informative illustration business tips -art, photography -new kids magazine from Australia -painting -book reviews for kids by kids -things to know about artists -art– photography, life and fun -art and poetry -poetry, life

For all of you award winners, here are the rules that govern the acceptance of your award:

Liebster Award!

I’ve just been honored with a nomination for the Liebster Award.  This lovely affirmation comes from fellow artist/blogger, Eldy from Eldy’s Space.  Thanks ever so much Eldy. I enjoy your blog too!

The Liebster refers to sweet, kind, nice, welcoming things in German. All of these words apply to the Liebster, because it serves to bring a little attention to blogs with fewer than two hundred followers. Directly from Eldy’s page, here are the requirements that come with the award:

1. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.

2. Reveal your top 5 picks for the award and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.

3. Post the award on your blog.

4. Bask in the love from the most supportive people on the blogsphere – other bloggers.

5. And, best of all – have fun and spread the karma.

All of the above requirements are a piece of cake except for #2. Selecting only five blogs to pass the award along to, is really tough.

Here are my 5 picks for the award:

All of the above blogs are favorites of mine for a variety of reasons. Mostly, they are all artists passionate about making art.  They are also generous in sharing their work, their ideas and process, and they support the work of other artists.  Check them all out.

I read lots of other blogs as well.  I’m guessing most of them already have over two hundred followers.  If you know through my comments, that I enjoy your blog and you happen to be visiting here and have not been nominated, it’s because you are already pulling in hundreds of eyeballs.

There are however, a few more blogs that I can’t resist adding to my personal list of favorites. They are:

Check them all out.

Also, have a look at my links-many interesting young and not so young artists are represented.

If you have a favorite art blog, I’d love to know about it. Please leave a comment with the URL.

And thanks again Eldy!
