Oil on Canvas 11″X14″

Drawing on my experiments with line, a speedy alla prima oil.

11″x14″ Oil on canvas

I’ve been fussing with this painting for weeks.  Lots of thin layers, lots of glazing.  I’m still not quite sure if it’s done.  Time will tell me…

Women Painting Women

Divide1

12″x 12″ Oil on Canvas

I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that my painting, Divide1 will be part of the Women Painting Women show at the Principle Gallery Charleston.  I’ve had a look at some of the excellent work in the show, created by some wildly talented women artists, and I’m honored to be a part of this inspiring exhibition! Have a look:

Young

A new series.  I’m not sure how many pieces I want to make or how far I want to take it, but this series is pretty straight forward.  It’s about being very young-on the brink of adulthood. It’s not about nostalgia, but instead an unflinching look at the close to the surface intensity of older teens and very early twenty somethings. I’m only painting cropped heads, and facial features, asserting the unfiltered expressions of these hauntingly beautifully fresh faces.

A Stirring

bdonation

The title of this painting is “Stirring” and I painted it as a donation for the The Visual Arts Center’s “For Art’s Sake” silent auction.  It’s oil on canvas 11″x 14″.

Perhaps it was the painting that got a stirring going within me, but I will be taking a Spring Break from blogging and my computer.  When I return refreshed, I’ll be visiting your blogs with renewed fervor and will hopefully have a few new pieces to share with you as well.

Another Divide

I’m still working on this series but with a little less vigor, since I’m distracted by and doing battle with the “Blood and Vapor” series.   So many paintings to make, never enough time.

Experiments In Oil#2

Thanks for all your thoughtful and kind comments on experiment #1.

Onto experiment #2.: Experiments #1 and #2 have photo challenges in common,  even though this surface is not shiny. These colors are somewhat brighter than the original and playing in PS didn’t get them right.  No glazing here, the paint was applied fresh but thick with medium.

I say, “meh”.  So far I’m confirming that the way I usually work, seems to work better for me.  I’m going to have to paint this model in my old tried and true fashion,  because I just haven’t begun to do her justice.

Tomorrow, oil experiment #3
